The Overtures

The Overtures are widely regarded as the UK's finest Sixties tribute act. To quote Sir Elton John, speaking to GQ magazine after they performed at the celebration of his civil partnership with David Furnish: “This band are amazing! They're just the best band of their kind in the world.”

Hertfordshire-based The Overtures were formed in 1989, and their line-up consists of founders Den Pugsley (bass/lead vocals) and Steve Phypers (drums/vocals), plus Jamie Cook (guitar/lead vocals), Phil Evans (guitar/vocals) and Alex Richards (keyboards/vocals).

They've been firm favourites for years now on the private party and corporate event circuit – performing for the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir David Frost, Elvis Costello and Diane Krall, Lulu, Chris Difford of Squeeze, Kenney Jones (ex of The Who and Small Faces), and many, many others too confidential to mention! December 2012 saw them perform at Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty the Queen's Christmas Party and more recent weeks have seen them finishing off their first album of completely original material.

During the past four years The Overtures have taken their 'Bootleg Sixties Sight and Sound Show' on major tours of UK theatres. This years tour will kick off in October through November and will be in conjunction with Flying Music, responsible for promoting many '60's and 70's legends' through their "Solid Silver 60's Show". April 2014 will also see the show undertake its very first sojourn into Europe with a 5 week tour of Holland.
After 2011's sell-out 'History of the Cavern' show at the Liverpool Philharmonic, The Overtures have again been requested to perform the show this year. Featuring many of the great artistes and groups that have appeared at this legendary venue over the past 50 years, the show will no doubt take us on a journey through those heady 'Merseybeat days', but will also encompass the Cavern Club's more recent history. Expect some surprises!
