Allan Williams, The Beatles’ first manager and very good friend of the Cavern Club, sadly passed away on December 30th 2016 at the age of 86. Along with Allan’s family, we will pay tribute to Allan, on what would have been his 87th birthday. Through music and stories we will celebrate the life of one of Liverpool’s most colourful characters.
As the original manager of the Fab Four, in 1960-1961, Allan got the band gigs both here and, crucially for their future development, in Hamburg. He was also the original owner of The Jacaranda in Slater Street, which he opened as a coffee bar in 1958. He once said; “I’ve always been proud of The Beatles and proud and happy to have been just a small cog in the wheel of the most famous group in the world. A lot of people have told me ‘I would have loved to have been there’ and it WAS a lot of fun – but we didn’t know we were making history. It was such a good time, though, and I’ve got no regrets – they were exciting days.”
Live music will be supplied by Cavern resident artists followed by a “Cave Dweller” jam session, which will feature many guest singers and musicians who will pay their own tribute to Allan. Artists confirmed include:
The Cavern Club Beatles
Mike Byrne & The Sunrockers
The Amazing Kappa Band
