Rolando Giambelli

Rolando Giambelli is keen on music since he was a child, and has played mouth – organ from the age of 5. At twelve, he starts thrumming guitar. But on one magic November night in 1963 he discovered The Beatles, listening to “Please Please Me” form a Juke Box.

The Beatles become his life’s soundtrack. Thanks to The Beatles, he learns English and falls in love with England. Rolando spreads the music of The Beatles anywhere. In 1992, after cooperating with the organization of Ringo Starr’s tour in Italy and Brescia and after a memorable meeting in London with George Martin, the great producer of The Beatles, Rolando founded the Beatle People Association “Beatlesiani D’Italia Associati” in order to further promote the Beatlemania in Italy. In 1993 he finally discovered the magical town on the river Mersey and thanks all friends at CCT participates to the Beatle Week sometimes with his son Alessandro and his band BeaTops and met all the friends of the Cavern City Tours, [a project] brought about by the common enthusiasm for a never ending legend. Ever since Rolando has never stopped returning to Liverpool to meet friends, play and live again the fantastic atmosphere surrounding Mathew Street, where the Cavern Club is placed, “where it all began”, Rolando also met the Major, Mr Edwin Clein, and his wife Pam on the occasion of calling a square in Palermo after John Lennon (among the cultural activities of the Association), and they have been friends since. Last year, thanks to Dave Jones of CCT, Rolando met Mayor Erica Kemp in her office at Town Hall!

These are few of the reasons which every year drive Rolando to promote by all means (press, radio and TV) Liverpool and the Beatles. In 2008, the City of Liverpool was European Capital of Culture, due both to its history as a big city and main sea port, and also to The Beatles and their fans who every year come from all over the world to pay homage to the art of its fabulous Four Sons.

Rolando could play this year in an acoustic duo with his friend singer and bassist Mauro Volonterio.
